Chow Chow (Chayote Squash) Poriyal

Ingredients:

  • chow chow(chayote squash)-2
  • Mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Gram dal or channa dal-2 tsp
  • turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder-1tsp
  • Curry leaves-2 twigs
  • Dried Red chillies-2
  • Saunf-1 tsp
  • Garlic chopped-10 pods
  • Onion-1 medium sized,chopped.
  • Oil-2 tsp

Preparation:

  • Dry roast a part of channa dal and grind it coarsely.keep it aside.
  • Add oil in a hot pan.
  • When oil is hot, splutter some mustard seeds.Add Saunf.
  • Add the Channa dal, let it roast for about 15 seconds.Add the garlic.
  • Add the chillies and curry leaves.
  • Add the Onion and fry till they translucent.
  • Add the Chow chow that are cut into cubes.
  • Add some salt,turmeric powder,chilli powder.
  • keep sprinkling some water until the chow gets cooked(not too soft).
  • now add the coarsely ground channa dal and mix it up.
  • you can also add some shredded coconut for added taste, which is optional.

Serve with Rice, or roll it in chappati.Enjoy!
